A season of change

Prices for petrol went up from RM1.92 to RM2.70 and electricity tariff went up too.

Shida and I was exchanging SMSes about changing our lifestyles. I don't think we need to totally change our lifestyles but more of trimming the extra expenses that we need to pay but not necessary to have it. Hubby asked me, "can meh?". "Don't talk about cutting down your expenses la, just don't waste". Point taken.

Hard times are coming here. Prices for other items will increase as well. On one hand, I think it is fair for the price increase cos oil prices has gone up like crazy. But on the other hand, I wish for the right authorities to manage funds entrusted to them well (less wastage) to cushion this effect or other trailing effects. I'm weak in finance and never studied economics. So, I can only think logically. 2 years ago, I told the travel agent whom I bought my mom's air ticket from, that one day the fee for fuel surcharge will be more than the actual price of the air ticket itself.

My wish would be for the government to channel the funds (saved from the fuel subsidies) to improve the quality of life in our country i.e. control on food prices, better transportation systems, more parks, less crime and etc. Seems like a tall order, huh?

No point complaining about it. What can I do to improve things around the house?
1. Cook more at home.
2. Walk more, drive less. Or can consider car pool.
3. Get groceries from cheaper stores, pasar malam, pasar tani, pasar borong. Be a member of 1 store and get most of your groceries there. At the end of the day, you get "reward points" which translates into $$.
4. Drive smaller cc car. If manual, better.
5. Consider eating less. Biologically, our body absorb only what it needs. The rest will turn into fats or waste. Consider cutting down other "unhealthy" food too.
6. Use washing machine only when there is a good load (dare not say full cos sure tak full punye).
7. Will using SmartTag/ TouchnGo help save petrol cos you don't have to queue at the toll?
8. Reuse Reuse Reuse!
9. Stop wasting (input from Hubby)

Doesn't seems like a lot of savings but better than nothing. In the beginning, I find it hard to pratice them because one need to put in effort to do all that. (Money doesn't fall from the sky, ok).

Come, come and share some thots.
